Every Memorial Day Weekend since 1974, Old Sacramento and other Downtown venues have been home to one ofthe area's biggest parties of the year.Originally the Sacramento Dixieland Jazz Jubilee, the event has evolved with the changing times, and is now called the Sac. Music Festival to reflect the incorporation of other styles of music in addition to classic jazz and swing, still the primary focus of this four-day event. Sponsored by the Sacramento Traditional Jazz Society, the event supports the preservation of traditional jazz—America's greatest original art form—through STJS Jazz Education Programs.

The event kicks off with crowds lining the street for a colorful parade on Friday morning,
then sparkles with Mardi Gras beads all day long and throughout the weekend into
Monday, propelled by a number of unique shows along the way: marching bands, tribute
concerts, a Sunday morning gospel sets, over a dozen youth groups,
and a "Swing Dance Contest" featuring hundreds of top swing dancers competing for cash.
Shuttle buses transport concertgoers between the event's 20 venues located throughout Old Sacramento, Midtown, and
the Convention Center.
